What is the best way to measure pH in soil?

Stir a 5g soil sample into 25g of deionised water and then leave to stand for 10 to 20 minutes. When the particles have separated from the liquid, insert the glass bulb of a pH probe specifically for this purpose, into the particles. Alternatively, mix double the amount of water with the soil and filter the liquid into a separate cup after letting it stand; then, measure the water.
