What is automatic temperature compensation and why do I need an automatic temperature probe?

When there are changes in the sample’s temperature, the electrode’s response or sensitivity to pH can change, causing an incorrect reading. pH instruments with temperature compensation account for this temperature related error. Without an automatic temperature probe, the temperature of the solution needs to be entered manually into the meter so that the meter allows for this error. The further the sample pH is away from pH 7, the more important automatic temperature compensation becomes.
